Rhineland-Palatinate Schools Boost Fair Trade Engagement
In a push towards promoting fair trade, local kindergartens and schools in the Rhineland-Palatinate region are stepping up their engagement. Benjamin Joseph, a prominent figure in the region, has pledged continued support for these educational institutions in their journey to become Fair Kindergartens and Fairtrade Schools.
Speyer, a city in the region, is currently on track to achieve Fairtrade certification. Its fair trade efforts began in 2012, with the aim of becoming a Fairtrade Town, adhering to the guidelines set by Fairtrade Germany. Meanwhile, Rommerskirchen is also making strides towards becoming a Fairtrade municipality.
Regular networking meetings for kindergartens involved in fair trade will continue, providing a platform for these institutions to share best practices and collaborate. An information event for further education schools, titled 'Getting involved and becoming a Fairtrade School', is planned for next year, further encouraging participation.
Students at the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium in Kaarst are currently exploring the origin of fair oranges, while fair-traded products are already being used in Rommerskirchen's town hall. The Kita Pusteblume in Rommerskirchen has even designed fair cotton bags individually with the children, fostering a sense of involvement and responsibility.
The Rhein-Kreis Neuss and the cities of Neuss, Dormagen, Juichen, and Korschenbroich have already achieved Fairtrade District/Town status, demonstrating a strong commitment to fair trade in the region.
With Benjamin Joseph's promise of continued support and the growing engagement of kindergartens and schools, the region is poised to make significant strides in fair trade. Through education, collaboration, and practical implementation, these institutions are not only promoting fair trade but also instilling its values in the next generation.
