Bosqueville ISD Launches Innovative Communication App

Bosqueville Independent School District (ISD) in Texas has introduced a new web-based communication app, designed to streamline parent-teacher communication and improve overall school transparency. The app, named Bosqueville ISD app, is an extension of the updated school website and serves as a convenient means for parents to stay connected even without their phones or tablets.

The creation of the app was motivated by parents' desire to avoid using social media for school communication. Lacey Merrifield, the Director of Technology at Bosqueville ISD, spearheaded the project, drawing on her expertise in education technology and her innovative approach to streamlining school operations. Merrifield's leadership in the field was further recognised with a Tech & Learning Innovative Leader Award.

The development of the app involved a collaborative effort between Merrifield and a team of programmers and designers, as well as feedback from the school community. The process began with a needs assessment, during which stakeholders identified communication challenges and requirements. Clear goals were defined, such as improving parent-teacher communication, event notifications, and emergency alerts.

Once the needs were identified, the team moved on to the design and development phase. The app was designed to be user-friendly for all users, including parents, teachers, and administrators. It includes features such as messaging, calendars, notifications, access controls, and multilingual support, if needed.

After the app was built, it underwent thorough testing phases, including alpha and beta testing. Feedback from users was incorporated to improve the app, and bugs and usability issues were fixed.

The app was officially launched through appropriate platforms, with a communication strategy in place to inform all users about its usage. Training sessions and instructional materials were provided for staff and parents.

Now that the app is live, ongoing support channels have been set up for users to report issues and ask questions. The app is designed to consolidate multiple school services, including door access, cameras, and guest services, into one platform. This consolidation has had a profound effect on other aspects of school life, influencing community communication and the management of school tools.

Teachers can receive messages through the app without having to share their personal phone numbers or use Google numbers. This separation between work and personal life is a significant advantage for teachers using the app on their personal devices. Alternatively, teachers can access the app through a school computer if they prefer.

The Bosqueville ISD app is set to revolutionise communication within the school community, organising teacher-parent communication, reducing over-communication, and ensuring privacy and security. It's a testament to Merrifield's innovative approach to technology in education and her commitment to enhancing transparency within the community.
