Updated Election News: Re-runs for Some Student Roles at Our University
The recent elections for student representatives in the University Senate and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at our university have been declared invalid. New elections for these positions will take place on the 11th and 12th of December. Don't miss out on your chance to run; candidate applications are accepted until the 5th of November at 12 PM.
Deadline for New Candidacy Proposals is the 5th of November
As of the day before yesterday, no candidacy proposals had been submitted for the upcoming elections. However, Victoria Mader, a representative from our university, expresses optimism that more applications will roll in.
Candidates from all faculties are encouraged to run for the University Senate. Students from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences can also compete for the Faculty Council's positions. A total of three new members, along with their deputies, are sought for each committee.
Responsibilities of Student Representatives
The University Senate plays a crucial role in university-wide decisions, such as electing the Rector, establishing academic departments, preparing the budget, and making crucial decisions regarding university policies.
The Faculty Council is responsible for important matters such as electing the Dean, designing the curriculum, and hiring professors. Student representatives play an active role in these bodies for a term of one year, participating in regular meetings and contributing to key decisions. These committees generally meet approximately four afternoons per semester.
For those unable to participate in the December elections, the option of postal voting is available until the 18th of November, 2024. Concurrently with the December re-runs, the Student Parliament (StuPa) elections will take place from the 9th to the 13th of December.
