School students and educators in Bremen now have access to a digital library card, known as Bibcard, which allows them to borrow books electronically.
In an effort to promote digital education in the Free Hanseatic City, Bremen City Library has launched a new initiative - the digital School Bibcard. This innovative digital card aims to make the library's extensive offerings more accessible for students and teachers within the city.
The digital School Bibcard is a significant step towards digital education, simplifying the registration process for school classes. Registration can be done quickly and easily via school iPads, making it a hassle-free experience for all involved. Once registered, the Bibcard can be transferred to the Wallet function of a personal smartphone for use outside of school hours.
With the digital School Bibcard, students and teachers can access a variety of digital offerings from the city library, including LinkedIn Learning, Onleihe, Filmfriend, and more. This includes the ability to borrow books digitally, further expanding the reach of the library's resources.
Education Senator Sascha Karolin Aulepp views the Bibcard as a significant step towards greater equality of opportunity, while Finance Senator Björn Fecker sees it as an example of how digitization can make life easier. The project was funded by the special fund "Strengthening funds" of the Senator for Finance.
The digital School Bibcard is part of an ongoing effort to move forward with digitalization, streamlining processes between schools and the city library. The card acts as a convenient bridge, simplifying both registration and resource access through centralized identity management and digital convenience.
The Bremen City Library's mobile app also shows the Bibcard barcode digitally, eliminating the need for physical cards and streamlining borrowing and account management for users. However, some functions like creating new registrations or ordering media online still require using the mobile catalog outside the app.
The fund for this project is available for Digital Administration and Citizen Service, further emphasizing the city's commitment to digital education and convenience. The digital School Bibcard initiative is set to make a significant impact on the educational landscape in Bremen, making knowledge and information more accessible to all.
