Singapore Biennale 2025: 'Pure Intention' Transforms City into Art Galleries
The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) has revealed the Singapore Biennale 2025 (SB2025), an expansive art event featuring over 80 artists from Singapore and beyond. The Biennale, commissioned by the National Arts Council and organized by SAM, will run from October 31, 2025, to March 29, 2026, with the theme 'pure intention' exploring art's role in reshaping everyday experiences.
Spanning six months, SB2025 will transform various everyday spaces across Singapore into vibrant art galleries. Key locations include the Rail Corridor South, Wessex Estate, Tanglin Halt, Civic District, Orchard, and SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark. The event also features roving projects, encouraging spontaneous artistic encounters.
The Biennale showcases over 100 artworks, including more than 30 new commissions, by artists from diverse backgrounds. Visitors can expect a wide range of media, from installations and performances to sculptures and digital art. Admission is free at most public venues, with ticketed entry (SGD15 for locals, SGD25 for foreigners) for SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark.
SB2025 invites audiences to rediscover Singapore through contemporary art, fostering reflection on urban life, social histories, and collective futures. The event is part of Singapore's SG60 celebrations, marking the nation's 60th anniversary. By challenging perceptions of movement and activity in everyday settings, the Biennale foregrounds the histories embedded in Singapore's landscapes, making it a must-visit event for art enthusiasts and curious minds alike.
