Spotlight on EIOH Resident: Dr. Mahshid Torabi Ardakani
Dr. Mahshid, a graduate of the University of Toronto's Dental School, is set to embark on a new journey at the prestigious Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH) in July 2024. She will be joining the EIOH Implant Fellowship program, an advanced clinical training initiative that integrates implant surgery with prosthodontics.
The EIOH Implant Fellowship program, based at the University of Rochester, is renowned for its comprehensive approach to dental implantology. The program is designed to provide in-depth, specialized training in implant dentistry, combined with prosthodontic rehabilitation. This dual focus allows fellows to acquire expertise in both placing implants and designing the prosthetic devices that attach to them, ensuring comprehensive patient care.
Dr. Carlo Ercoli, a key figure at EIOH, chairs the Prosthodontics Postgraduate Training Program and is also a professor involved in prosthodontics, periodontics, and implant surgery at the University of Rochester. This clinical and academic integration between implant fellowship training and prosthodontics at EIOH is highlighted by Dr. Ercoli's role.
Dr. Mahshid immigrated to Canada in 2015 and was drawn to Eastman for her residency due to its reputation in education and the opportunity to be mentored by top experts in prosthodontics. She believes that the collaboration between the prosthodontics and periodontology departments at Eastman is crucial for integrating prosthetic options with surgical considerations.
Outside of her dental career, Dr. Mahshid is a food lover who enjoys trying different cuisines from various countries. Thai food is her favourite, particularly Papaya salad. She also cherishes her family and has made life-long friendships and relationships during her Eastman residency.
Dr. Mahshid advises new Eastman residents to embrace learning opportunities, build strong relationships, maintain a good work-life balance, stay curious, ask lots of questions, and enjoy the journey of growth and discovery during their residency. She lives by the motto: "You only live once, so live life to the fullest, cherish your family, make unforgettable memories with your friends, and keep growing every day."
The Implant Fellowship, alongside prosthodontics training, will equip Dr. Mahshid with the expertise needed to effectively address diverse patient needs. She is excited to start this new chapter in her career and looks forward to making a positive impact on her patients' lives.
Science and personal growth are intertwined in Dr. Mahshid's career as she prepares to join the EIOH Implant Fellowship program, an advanced training initiative that integrates implant surgery with prosthodontics, expanding her knowledge in education-and-self-development and health-and-wellness fields. In line with her belief in lifelong learning, she advises new residents to stay curious, ask questions, and value the opportunities for growth and discovery, embracing the journey of learning as a means of personal growth.
