Students Showcase Sustainable Fashion, Moers Schools Lead Fair Trade Charge
Students from Gymnasium In den Filder Benden showcased sustainable 'fast fashion' alternatives and fair trade clothing during a city tour on Tuesday, September 23. The event, part of the nationwide Fair Trade Fortnight, highlighted the importance of ethical and environmentally friendly fashion choices. The Gymnasium Adolfinum also participated, presenting a sustainable fashion show on Friday, September 26.
Both schools are committed to promoting fair trade and sustainable development. They joined the 'Fairtrade Schools' campaign, integrating these topics into daily school life. Conventionally produced cheap clothing often comes with exploitative labour conditions and environmental damage, ultimately ending up in textile recycling bins due to poor quality. The fashion shows aimed to raise awareness about these issues and offer sustainable alternatives.
The Gymnasium Adolfinum received a certificate as a certified Fairtrade School following their fashion show. This brings the total number of certified 'Fairtrade Schools' in Moers to six. These schools are actively promoting fair trade within their environments. The events were organized by the World Shop Moers and the steering group Fairtrade-Town Moers.
The fashion shows and city tours organized by Gymnasium In den Filder Benden and Gymnasium Adolfinum have raised awareness about the importance of fair trade and sustainable fashion. By becoming certified Fairtrade Schools, these institutions are leading the way in promoting ethical and environmentally friendly practices within the school environment and the wider community.
