TEQSA and ASQA Unveil Five-Year Plans to Strengthen Australia's Education Sector

The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) have recently unveiled their corporate plans for the next five years, outlining their strategies to ensure quality, integrity, and sustainability in Australia's education sector, both onshore and offshore.

TEQSA, responsible for higher education, has identified significant risks in the international education sector, including student recruitment, education agents, and student information. Their objectives include promoting good practice, identifying risks, and ensuring compliance. They will align their regulatory approach with potential legislative changes to the ESOS Act and TEQSA Act. TEQSA will also monitor Transnational Education (TNE) and third-party delivery arrangements to maintain quality and integrity.

ASQA, overseeing vocational education and training, will monitor and respond to changes in the international VET sector due to sustainability measures. They will strengthen their approach to regulating offshore delivery and collaborate with international counterparts. ASQA's strategic objectives include a transparent, accountable, and evidence-based regulatory approach, stakeholder engagement, and supporting its people and operations.

Both TEQSA and ASQA will focus on integrity, quality, and sustainability in the Government's policy agenda. Their plans, covering a four-year period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029, demonstrate their commitment to robust regulation and continuous improvement in Australia's education sector.
