Art Students in Geretsried Explore Artificial Intelligence and Reality in Final Projects

In a thought-provoking display of artistic talent, the graduating class of a secondary school in Geretsried, Germany, presented their artworks at the city library's vernissage. Max Blauhuth, the school's art teacher, welcomed visitors as the summer holidays approached.

Blauhuth, in his address, addressed the pressing issue of artificial intelligence (AI) and the loss of reality in today's world. He touched upon the concern of not knowing which videos or photos have been filtered or created with AI, and the potential creation of "internet bubbles" that foster alternative truths online.

The students, including Mena Filzen and Ashley Wentzel from class 10d, spoke during the vernissage, expressing pride as exhibitors and artists. Filzen, who recalled her previous visit to a vernissage as a seventh-grader, this time as an exhibitor, highlighted the significance of the event.

The theme of the final exam was the contrast between objective reality and subjective perception. To exemplify this concept, students were required to create a pencil drawing featuring a water glass as a central element. The water glass was depicted on the edge of an elevation, symbolizing a worldview that could easily be shaken.

Students created a microcosm with an alternative reality from the water glass, selecting various small objects to reproduce in their drawing, both true to the original and distorted. This exercise aimed to make the modern problem of alternative truths visible to the students, as Blauhuth explained.

In a unique twist, the students completed their projects within a four-hour time frame, adding an element of challenge to their creative process. Art teacher Blauhuth highlighted a student's work titled "twisted and on edge," featuring a teddy bear's head upside down in a water glass, during the vernissage.

The students thanked the teaching staff for teaching them techniques, inspiring them through excursions, and showing them the meaning of art. Their heartfelt appreciation underscored the impact of Blauhuth's teachings and the importance of art education in fostering critical thinking and creativity.

In the context of the art projects presented by the graduating class, it's important to emphasize the relevance of education in understanding contemporary challenges, such as the impact of artificial intelligence and the loss of reality in today's world. [education-and-self-development]
