Tuition Hike in Kuban Drives Surge in Educational Loans
Universities in Kuban have significantly raised tuition fees for medical specialties, leading to a surge in student loans across southern Russia. The trend has seen a notable increase in demand and issuance, particularly among younger students.
In August alone, students in southern Russia secured loans worth a staggering 1.2 billion rubles. The Krasnodar region led the way with nearly 3,000 loans totaling 588 million rubles. The Stavropol and Rostov regions followed closely, with 674 and 632 loans respectively, amounting to 140 million and 126 million rubles.
The growth in student loans was particularly pronounced in the DNR, Crimea, Sevastopol, and Ingushetia, where the growth rate reached 140-148%. Over the first eight months, nearly 10,700 students secured loans, a 50% increase from the same period last year. Anatoly Pesennikov, chairman of Sberbank's Southwestern Bank, noted that these loans help students start their adult lives confidently and achieve their goals. The highest demand for these loans is typically seen in August, with a 2.5 times increase in volume issuance compared to July.
The sharp increase in tuition fees for medical specialties in Kuban has led to a significant rise in student loans across southern Russia. With over 8,000 students admitted to top universities with state-supported loans, and nearly 10,700 loans issued in the first eight months, the trend shows no signs of slowing down. As the demand for these loans grows, particularly among younger students, financial institutions and educational bodies continue to support and facilitate access to higher education.
